That Feeling When You Find a Natural Rosacea Skin Care That Works…

Hi Rosy Friends 🌸,

Bedrock Balm Natural Rosacea Skin Care that WorksIt’s been a while – quite a while – since I’ve had a victory with natural rosacea skin care to share with you, but I finally (FINALLY) have one for you, and it’s called Bedrock Balm.

Before I Get Started

To preface absolutely everything I’m about to say after this point, this is not a sponsored post. I’m not affiliated with Bedrock skin care in any way. If you head over to their site and buy twelve jars of this product, or if you just click away, I don’t stand to gain or lose financially.

Just thought I’d put that out there because I’m about to say a lot of positive things but want to reassure you that, as always, my reviews are completely honest.  They are based on my non-expert (I’m a fiction writer, not a medical/skin expert) opinions and first-hand experience with Bedrock balm.

That said, if you do want to give it a try, there’s a great coupon code at the bottom of this post for you to use to save money. Again, I don’t earn from that. I’m just sharing so you can benefit.

Okay, Now Here’s My Bedrock Balm Scoop

Ever since my old favourite natural skin care company closed (read all about that in my “Saying Goodbye to My Favourite Natural Skin Care Company” post from last year), I’ve been on the hunt for new products that work. I’ve found a few things I’m comfortable with, and a few that will tide me over until I find something I like a lot more.

I’ve been trying lots of products along the way.  Most have been meh, but some stood out. Unfortunately, it wasn’t always in a good way.

Flare-Up Before Picture
Flare-up pic I took while using a different product I’d been testing at the start of this year. It felt like I was being slapped.

The first product I tried this year (not Bedrock Balm) left me with a horrible, slap-like stinging flare-up. Usually, I would spend some time recovering my skin by going back to the most basic of basics. I’d wash my face minimally but gently, moisturize, don’t use any “treatment” or “anti-redness” products and give my skin the chance to heal and get balanced before I’d try something else.

This time, I’m not entirely sure why I did things differently. I guess I was fed-up with products failing me. I guess I didn’t feel I had much to lose.  Plus, I admit that I was eager to try Bedrock Balm, especially because it had such a healing and soothing description. Hmm, after reading this paragraph, I suppose I do know why I did things differently this time.  I had quite the list of reasons.

Though I’d used that reaction-inducing other product that morning, I decided to get started with Bedrock Balm that night.  I followed the directions and gently cleansed my face (saying goodbye to the other product forever), gently applied a tiny amount of the Bedrock Balm (a little goes a long way, as I’ve discovered time after time with natural skin care for rosacea), then topped it off with the moisturizer I’d been using at the time, a face oil.

The First Morning

Bedrock Balm as Natural Skin Care for Rosacea Day 1
This was the next morning after the other picture was taken. I’d say Bedrock Balm had been on my face about 10 hours. BTW, I put on the same shirt for this pic, so my clothing colour wouldn’t affect the look of the results.

Ho-ly cow!  I can’t tell you how much better my skin felt after my first night using Bedrock Balm (but I’ll try).  The irritation was wayyyy down and my skin was perfectly comfortable again.  It still looked a bit blotchy, but the pimple-like bumps were gone, and the stinging had eased away.  It felt fantastic.

After around 2 weeks-ish of using Bedrock Balm, I contacted the owner of the company, Rachel Wernet, to sing the product’s praises and ask if she was interested in offering a coupon code to my Rosy Friends community, because I knew I’d be making a video and blog post reviewing this product. She sent the most lovely, gracious, and uplifting response and, yup, a discount code (scroll down if you want it. Again, I’m not affiliated. I don’t gain from the use of that code. It’s just there for your savings).

Still, I waited nearly another 2 weeks before recording a YouTube review video about this natural skin care product. In my experience with testing products on rosacea, the first impression isn’t always the lasting one. I’ve had products seem miraculous in the first few days, then turn into a nightmare. I’ve also (more frequently) found that my skin reacts terribly to a product when I first try it, but if I hang in there, the situation changes, and my skin seems to become used to the ingredients.

I guess rosacea has to acclimate to everything from prescription to natural skin care products before it makes up its mind. I can relate. I struggle with change sometimes, too.  That said, even after waiting, my skin love, love, loves Bedrock Balm.

Here’s the YouTube video about my experience in using it, and how I really put it through the wringer. No matter what rosacea triggers my life threw at this natural skin care product, Bedrock Balm kept things calm and flare-up free.

Note: as I pointed out in the video, I do not think that Bedrock Balm is a cure for rosacea. I do not think it will work for everyone. I find it absolutely wonderful on my skin. I know that it may work the same way for many people, but it is very likely not to work for many people with rosacea, too. This just seems to be the case with all prescription, non-prescription and natural skin care products for rosacea. We each find what works for our own individual skin. Please find this blog post informative and possibly entertaining, but this is not a recommendation for how to treat your skin condition.

How I Use Bedrock Balm as Natural Skin Care for Rosacea

Bedrock Balm Zinc Oxide for Rosacea
Click the image for a larger version you can actually read 😂

The little info card that came with my order gave very simple usage directions.  It stated:

“Apply and massage into clean, dry skin (face or body). Apply morning and before bed before moisturizer or SPF.”

So, that’s what I do. I wash my face in lukewarm water, pat it dry with a soft, fluffy towel, and apply the Bedrock Balm.  The texture of this product is different from that of other types of natural skin care for rosacea that I’ve tried. It’s nearly a solid (though it could be because it’s winter, and I keep my place pretty cool – around 18ºC – to help keep my skin happy. I’m curious to see if it softens as the weather warms).

I use my ring finger – my weakest and therefore gentlest finger – to rub onto the surface of the product until I have a teensy amount on my fingertip. I pat that onto the rosacea-affected part of my face. It usually takes one “refill” for each side of my face.  Only the smallest amount is needed, which means that I expect the little 15 ml (0.5 oz) jar to last for months.  Once the product has been tapped onto my face, I gently spread it over the area to be sure it’s distributed evenly.

At this point, there is a faint white layer over the area because this product contains 22% zinc oxide as one of its core ingredients (the rest of the ingredients are listed below and on the image with the info card). Though I somewhat like that thin layer of whiteness because it matches my sheet-white ghosty skin and covers my permanent (from skin damage) redness, it doesn’t stay.

The next step is to moisturize and/or apply sunscreen.  With that application, the whiteness disappears. By the time of the writing of this post, I’ve tried it with both a skin oil (rosehip oil) and a natural skin cream and both had the same whiteness-erasing effect.

Bedrock Balm Ingredients and Product Info

Here’s some additional information about Bedrock Balm.  Though I used it as a natural rosacea skin care product, it’s not specifically made for that reason.  Here are all the other ways this product can “multitask” according to the info I received with the jar. Note, I haven’t tested these out. I just thought you’d be interested.

  • Bug bites
  • Bumps or chicken skin
  • Cuts and scrapes
  • Chapped lips or chafe
  • Cold sores
  • Itchy bum or diaper rash
  • Dry heels or elbows
  • Eczema
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Ingrown hairs
  • Instead of topicals or steroid creams
  • Jock itch or toe funk
  • Razor bumps or razor burn
  • Rosacea or redness 🌸

Bedrock Balm Ingredients

  • Grapeseed oil
  • 22% Zinc oxide
  • Sunflower wax
  • Lavender flower oil
  • Meadowfoam seed oil
  • Rosehip seed oil
  • Organic jojoba seed oil
  • Shea oil
  • Organic calendula flower
  • Organic olive fruit oil
  • Allantoin
  • Vitamin E
  • Sunflower seed oil
  • Tea tree leaf oil
  • Roman chamomile flower oil
  • German chamomile flower oil
  • Baking soda

With these ingredients the info card says that Bedrock Balm:

“Soothes red, dry or irritated skin so it’s soft and smooth. Gentle for babies + kiddos.”

The shelf life is 12 months (which is good because a jar lasts forever even with daily use!). It should be stored in a cool, dark place, out of direct sunlight, which is pretty much standard for all natural skin care for rosacea that I’ve tried.

This product is:

  • Vegan
  • Cruelty-free (Leaping Bunny certified)
  • Gluten-free
  • Nontoxic with non-nano zinc oxide
  • Made in the United States

A Non-Expert Thought About Sun Protection

Though Bedrock Balm hasn’t included sun protection among its benefits, I have a sneaking suspicion that it might be protective to some degree.  As a non-doctor, non-skincare expert fiction book writer, I really shouldn’t be considered an official source of facts on this one. I’m including this info here because I find it interesting.

My favourite natural sunscreens are both based on similar zinc oxide percentages, and they have an SPF rating in the 30-32 range. I discuss this in a bit of detail in the video above if you’re curious to hear more. Therefore, while I can’t prove it because I’m just basing this guess on a comparison with other products and on a gut feeling, I think it may help to boost skin protection from the sun. This is great news for those of us whose symptoms are triggered by the sun (including me). What a great base layer under other natural sunscreens (in my humble, non-scientific opinion).
